Suicide Squad Director Reveals Unique Conceptualization of Jared Leto’s Joker Appearance
David Ayer shared an updated Jared Leto Joker photo taken from his Suicide Squad edit, which has yet to be released.
Suicide Squad director David Ayer shared a rare view at Jared Leto’s Joker. Leto’s Joker is a mix of comic accuracy and experimental design. There were also many fashion choices that audiences didn’t know existed.
The Suicide Squad director fights for his true version, which is different from the theatrical cut. Ayer said that Suicide Squad went through a reshoot and restructuring to reflect a lighter tone.
Ayer posted the new image of Leto’s Joker onto Twitter with the caption “experiments” from an outfit fitting. This suit matches Leto’s character as an anarchist and eccentric mobster. It is inspired by modern-day aesthetics including the teeth grill, controversial face tattoos, and teeth grill. Ayer stated that Robin was killed and Batman broke his teeth, locking him up in Arkham Asylum. Joker would do the ‘damaged’ tattoo to say that he had damaged Batman. You’ve made me look so beautiful.
Ayer’s Joker photo was reacted to by one Twitter user who said that he wasn’t going anywhere with his new Joker image. Ayer replied to the upset Twitter user by saying, “The New 52 Court of Owls Batman ran” Some of the design choices were inspired by the New 52. This can also be seen in Joker’s hairstyle (and black suit), which is similar to Batman Endgame Version 7, and in Ayer’s white tuxedo that featured in the car chase sequence in the Dark Knight Returns.
Ayer has often spoken out about the Joker’s intended portrayal. Ayer previously stated, “Jared wasn’t treated well” and “no one has seen his performance.” It was ripped off the movie.” Ayer said that the Suicide Squad teaser trailer aligned perfectly with the original vision. The revelation was one among many re-shoots which weren’t shown in the theatrical cut. Ayer continues posting photos of Leto’s JOKER in Suicide Squad as a way to spark debate about WB’s intentions.
Ayer brought Heath Ledger the villain back to pale-white skin. But fans seem more upset than the execution, which is understandable. However, some fans might like to put their pitchforks down, or at minimum, refocus their energy toward WB by campaigning towards the Ayer Cut until Leto’s true Joker performance.
