Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ Electrifying Ending Pushes Billy Batson to His Limit
Shazam! Fury of the Gods has action and intensity, but one crucial decision will leave many in confusion about the character’s future.
This article contains spoilers about Shazam! Fury of the Gods is now playing in theaters
Shazam! In Shazam! He doesn’t have enough wisdom to defeat the Daughters of Atlas when he transforms into his magical form (played here by Zachary Levi). They are here to reclaim magic and reforge Shazam’s staff, and to de-power Billy’s brothers to do it.
Billy is unsure of himself without the Marvel Family. He is able to get help from Helen Mirren’s Hespera, and Rachel Zegler, who is torn by Anthea. They turn on Lucy Liu, but not endorsing the idea of her trying to rebuild the Realm of the Gods. It ends in a shocking, tragic finale that is filled with death and a strange conclusion that muddies future DC Universe movies.

Shazam! 2 Kills Kalypso & Billy
Billy convinces Hespera that he can lower the shield around Philly and box Kalypso with her dragon. After stealing Shazam’s staff, Billy charges them with using it as an electrical bomb. Kalypso and her Dragon die. However, the same fate falls to Hesperia as well as the other monsters that were created to destroy the planet. Unfortunately, Billy is killed in the explosion, and his mortal remains are left at the Philly baseball park. It’s a grim ending that reminds me of Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice’s fight to defeat Doomsday.
It teaches the Marvel Family, who has revealed the truth about their powers to their parents, how important family is. Because of his abandonment issues, Billy wants them all to stick together in Fury of the Gods. Because he was still traumatized by his parent’s abandonment, he felt that they should stay together, forgoing jobs and schools, in order to get over it. Although the siblings thought it was absurd, they now understand that Freddy’s adoption filled a huge gap in Freddy’s life. Freddy is left in tears after taking his brother for granted.

Shazam! 2 Resurrects Billy, Raises a DCU question
The family buries Billy. This would have been a terrible way to end things, but it still fits the new DCU movies. Peter Safran and James Gunn seem to have moved on from the character. Although Shazam is not mentioned in any future projects, the creative waters become murky when Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman makes an appearance. She is the last god on earth, so she restarts the staff and allows it to resurrect Billy. After he hits upon her, she smiles and leaves. He is captivated by his crushes and Justice League dreams.
The family dines together to close the movie. Anthea is rebuilding her realm, while Freddy spends time with Freddy on Earth. Shazam receives a makeover and roves around the globe with his staff to learn more about the people. The ending teases a sequel because the family is still united. It’s not clear what instructions were given after the DC changes. Henry Cavill’s Superman, Ben Affleck and Batman, Gadot, and Diana of Themyscira, as well as Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, all seem to have been canned.

Fans will wonder if Billy will be in Gunn’s vision. This is especially true considering that supernatural films like Swamp Thing and Creature Commandos are on the horizon. this could be a quick ending to Billy’s story. The Fury of the Gods post-credits scenes that tease a possible team-up only increase the uncertainty surrounding the character’s future.
Shazam! to see Billy win. Fury of the Gods can be seen in theaters right now.
